Thermal valves

Domestic Hot Water systems require a special approach to hydronic balancing. As any other heating system, the water should be equally distributed. But because the water is also consumed, safety matters too. It is important to control the water temperature. It should be high enough to use and avoid growth of legionella bacteria, but not so high that it causes personal injuries. At the same time, the energy efficiency of the DHW system needs to be optimized.

For these reasons, manual or automatic balancing valves are not applicable. Thermal balancing valves, controlling the water temperature in every riser of the system, are the best option for these types of systems. By maintaining a constant water temperature in every riser, the DHW system is automatically balanced, no matter the distance to the DHW source.

For extra safety and energy efficiency, DHW systems can periodically be disinfected by temporarily increasing the water temperature to a level that kills legionella bacteria. This can be achieved with electronic disinfection. Electronic disinfection offers many more advantages, it allows remote system access and operation on mobile devices via WiFi or integration in Building Management Systems.

Danfoss offers a broad range of thermal balancing valves, disinfection solutions and related products for Domestic Hot Water systems.

Product Highlights

  • Improve comfort
    Thermal balancing ensures hot water to be available equally fast at the same temperatures, no matter how far from the source
  • Save energy
    Heat losses are minimized, and the circulation pump only distributes the required amount of water to minimize the energy consumption of the system
  • Reduce water waste
    Hot water is always available and reduces long waiting times
  • Reduce the risk of legionella
    Insufficient heated risers that allow legionella to grow are prevented but the functional design of the system remains just as important

  • CCR2+ category image

    CCR2+

    The CCR2+ optimizes thermal disinfection in hot water systems with temperature registration and monitoring. It can be used independently for temperature registration. Thermal disinfection is effective for bacteria pasteurisation (Legionella pnemophila). Optimizing this process reduces energy consumption and disinfection time, lowering bacterial contamination risks. Disinfection temperatures range from 50 °C to 78 °C; time is adjusted based on Brundrett recommendations and cannot be altered beyond set limits.The CCR2+ features LED status indicators, a built-in Web-Server App, Wi-Fi, LAN port, and memory for temperature data storage. Users can adjust the storage rate and export data to Excel. It controls multiple risers with thermoactuators and PT1000 sensors. One unit manages 20 risers and an S0 sensor for disinfection initiation. Additional features include alarm output, pump protection, and system expansion. Power supply is ~24 V (DC), 50 Hz. Installation is on a standard DIN relay.

  • MTCV category image

    MTCV

    The MTCV is a multifunctional thermostatic balancing valve used in domestic hot water installations with circulation.
    The MTCV provides a thermal balance in hot water installations by keeping a constant temperature in the system, thus limiting the flow in the circulation pipes to the minimum required level.
    To meet the increasing demands placed on the quality of drinking water, Danfoss MTCV valves are made from corrosion resistant and low lead materials:

    • valve body made from rg5 bronze material;
    • components made from low lead;
    • main cone made from advanced engineering polymere POM-C.
